Activity ideas from our teachers
Follow along with a reading of “The Grouchy Ladybug” by Eric Carle, then make your own pet bug that even mom can’t say ‘no’ to! Fill up your tummy with some Ants in Your Pants and then head to the drawing board to draw some bugs that really bug you. Create a mini habitat for your common household bugs (toy bugs only please), then dig into the Counting Caterpillar Sensory Bin. Inspect an Insect with Sci Show Kids and learn about their value to Earth. Get your groove on with the Move Like an Insect game. You can even turn on some Bee-thoven to set the mood.
Follow along with a reading of “Dragons Love Tacos” by Adam Rubin and then make your own Fire Breathing Dragons, no hot sauce required! Polish your green thumb with Peasant Gardening and then roll up your sleeves and build your own castle. You can even build a mote! Celebrate your new kingdom with Royal Dancing.
Follow along with a reading of “Charlie the Caterpillar” by Dom Deluise, then observe as caterpillars transform into butterflies! Brighten the room with your very own Coffee Filter Butterflies and then head into the kitchen for The Very Hungry Caterpillar Taste Test. Emerge as a talented dancer and then test your attention to detail skills while sorting and matching butterflies!
Listen to Ms. Jane read "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes. What is your favorite board game? Don't worry if you don't have one because you can learn how to make your very own, rules and all! After you're done playing your board game masterpiece, relax with a chrysanthemum color page.
